Recent demand for both hard red winter and spring wheat has been supportive to prices, as exporters push nearby markets for farmer movement. Shipments...Total U.S. wheat shipments for last week came in on the low end of trade expectations at 12 mb, putting year-to-date shipments at 328 mb and 22% behind a year ago. Top shipper was hard red winter at 4.8 mb, followed by hard red spring with 4.5 mb. Soft white wheat registered less than a million bushels. Top destinations off the west coast were Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, each with 2.3 mb, followed by Japan with 1.1 mb. Crop Progress...USDA crop ratings showed week to week declines for the PNW winter wheat crop, as the three-state winter wheat index drifted a few points lower. Most notable of the three states was Washingtion, where the good to excellent dropped from 73% to 57%; nearly 30% under a year ago. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2018 DTN/Telvent.
