CME Globex Recap: Early Friday is looking like a bearish environment for trading in grains, which begins at 8:30 a.m. CST. The U.S. dollar index is higher, supported by concerns of slower growth in Europe and spot crude oil is trading at its lowest prices in over a year. U.S. grain futures trade a shorter-than-usual session Friday, ending at 12:05 p.m. for most grain contracts. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes on Wednesday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.95 points at 24,464.69 and the S&P 500 up 8.04 points at 2,649.93, while the 10-year Treasury yield ended at 3.06%. Early Friday, DJIA futures are down 119.00. Asian markets were mixed with Japan's Nikkei 225 up 139.01 points (0.65%) and China's Shanghai Composite was down 65.95 points (-2.5%). European markets are mixed with London's FTSE 100 down 1.07 points (-0.01%), Germany's DAX up 17.15 points (0.1%), and France's CAC 40 up 5.21 points (0.1%). The euro was down 0.0053 at 1.1358 and the U.S. dollar index was up 0.41 at 96.91. September 30-year T-Bonds were up 7/32nds while December gold was down $5.80 at $1222.20 and January crude oil was down $2.32 at $52.31. Soybeans and meal on China's Dalian Exchange both closed modestly lower. Malaysian palm oil was down 0.6%.
