DTN Early Word Grains 12/21 05:52 Mixed, Quiet Trade as Grains Make the Turn into Christmas March corn was up 1 3/4 cents, January soybeans were down 1 cent, and March KC wheat was down 1 1/4 cent. CME Globex Recap: Equity markets are soft around the globe as a U.S. government shutdown looms and uncertainty rattles investors. As if stocks needed something more to deal with besides the trade war and Brexit, the government of the world's largest economy is on the brink of shutting down over border wall funding. Crude oil is making fresh 17-month lows this morning. More low volume trade in ag commodities this morning ahead of the Christmas break with Chinese purchases and ethanol weakness remaining the main talkers OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes on Thursday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 464.06 at 22,859.60 and the S&P 500 down 39.54 at 2,467.42 while the 10-yr Treasury yield ended at 2.805%. Early Friday, DJIA futures are down 123.00. Asian markets were lower with Japan's Nikkei 225 down 226.39 points (-1.11%) and China's Shanghai Composite was down 20.02 points (-0.79%). European markets are lower with London's FTSE 100 down 48.64 points (-0.72%), Germany's DAX down 86.12 points (-0.81%), and France's CAC 40 down 59.91 points (-1.28%). The euro was up 0.00555 at 1.14410 and the U.S. dollar index was up 0.1830 at 96.5760. December 30-year T-Bonds were up unchanged while February gold was down $6.70 at $1261.20 and February crude oil was down $0.25 at $45.63. Soybeans on China's Dalian Exchange closed down 0.54% and soymeal closed down 0.55%.
