IA 900 138.00 218.00 DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The majority of business took place on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, with a little cleanup on both Thursday and Friday. Southern business had a range of $134 to $137, mostly $136 to $137, steady to $2 lower than the prior week's weighed averages. Northern dressed trade ranged from $217 to $220, mostly $218, $2 lower than last week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports the accumulated weekly average price totals are as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS $135.58($137.12); NE $218.00 ($220.00); TX $136.18($138.00); IA $218.00($219.92); CO not available due to confidentiality. According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were: KS 13,120; NE 17,344; TX 6,265; IA 12,034, CO not available due to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 113,000 head, 1,000 more than the prior week, but 2,000 smaller than the previous year. Saturday's kill is estimated at 53,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 621,000, 1,000 head greater than the week before, but 31,000 less than 2021. The weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $280.27(+12.24), select $270.57(+10.67), with an average choice select spread of $9.70(+1.57), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 622(-73). Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses. For the week ending January 07, 2022, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the U.S. totaled 43,669, 82.78% of the previous week and 94.00% of the 4-week average. DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks like it will be a typically quiet Monday with both packers and producers busy taking inventory. Bids and asking prices will not likely be established. Significant trade volume will probably be delayed until Wednesday or later. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with generally light box movement.
