IA 1,000 140.00 223.00-227.00 DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The majority of business took place on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, with scattered deals here and there on Thursday, and Friday. Southern live trade had a range of $136 to $138, mostly $137, roughly $1 lower than the prior week's weighted averages. Northern dressed deals had a rather large range of $222 to $228, mostly $223, about $3 lower than the previous week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports the accumulated weekly average price totals are as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS $137.01($137.86); NE $223.81($225.80); TX $137.00($137.85); IA $224.80($226.09); CO $138.82($141.33). The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were: KS 16,206; NE 24,301; TX 8,226; IA 18,194; and CO 771. Friday's slaughter totaled 120,000 head, 3,000 less than the prior week but 3,000 greater than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 25,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 644,000 head, 36,000 below the previous week, but 14,000 more than 2021. The weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $264.05 (+3.02), select $244.91(-0.88), with an average choice select spread of $19.14(+3.90), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 632(+107). Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses. For the week ending May 21, 2022, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the U.S. totaled 50,424, 98.85% of the previous week and 100.49% of the 4-week average. DTN MORNING COMMENTS: All is quiet in the country this Tuesday morning, with bids and asking prices not established as of yet, as both buyers and sellers are busy taking inventory. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until Wednesday or later. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with generally light box movement.
