DTN Early Word Grains 01/05 05:44 Crop Prices Get a Break Early Thursday, Crude Oil Higher March corn is up 2 cents, March soybeans are up 1 cent and March KC wheat is up 5 cents. Todd Hultman DTN Lead Analyst EARLY MORNING GLOBEX NET CHANGES: March corn is up 2 cents, March soybeans are up 1 cent and March KC wheat is up 5 cents. CME GLOBEX RECAP: Early Thursday, stock futures in the U.S. were slightly higher, in line with mixed trade in Europe. Wednesday's minutes from the Federal Reserve repeated intentions to keep raising interest rates in an effort to bring down inflation and remain a limiting concern on U.S. stock prices. U.S. weekly jobless claims and the U.S. trade deficit for November will be out at 7:30 a.m. CST, the same time we also get an update of the U.S. Drought Monitor. The U.S. Energy Department will report on natural gas storage at 9:30 a.m. and energy inventories at 10 a.m., including ethanol production. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Wednesday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 133.40 at 33,269.77 and the S&P 500 up 28.83 at 3,852.97, while the 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 3.71%, down from the October peak of 4.33%. Early Thursday, March Dow Jones futures are trading up 24 points. Asian markets are higher with Japan's Nikkei 225 index up 0.40% and China's Shanghai Composite Index up 1.01%. European markets are mixed with the spot futures of the London FTSE 100 trading up 0.42%, spot futures of Germany's DAX trading down 0.27% and spot futures of France's CAC Index trading down 0.46%. The March euro is up $0.0012 at $1.0668. The March U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.03 at 104.0. The March 30-year T-bond is down 6/32nds, while February gold is down $5.10 at $1,853.90 and February crude oil is up $1.91 at $74.75. On China's Dalian exchange, March corn was up 0.3%, March soybeans were down 1.1%, May soybean meal was down 1.2% and May soybean oil was down 1.0%. March Malaysian palm oil is trading down 1.9%.
