DTN Early Word Grains 04/14 05:43 Grain Markets Mixed, Planting Progress Weighs on New Crop; Outside Markets Supportive. May corn is up 2 cents, May soybeans are down 7 cents, and May KC wheat is up 2 cents. Kent Beadle, DTN Contributing Analyst EARLY MORNING GLOBEX NET CHANGES: May corn is up 2 cents, May soybeans are down 7 cents, and May KC wheat is up 2 cents. CME GLOBEX RECAP: Thursday's PPI report was another data point suggesting a slowing economy and inflation levels that are coming under control with the current higher interest rate structure. Equity prices rallied sharply but unlike Wednesday, we did not give back the gains. The S&P 500 posted its highest close since February 2 and its second highest close since August 25 of last year. Overnight, the IEA said that crude oil demand will rise to record levels on a recovery in Chinese demand. Energy markets are rallying on this forecast. Friday morning, we get the March retail sales numbers, while we are also beginning earnings season with a few companies that will announce their 1st quarter results. U.S. equity futures are slightly lower Friday morning, correcting some of Thursday's gains. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Thursday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 383.19 at 34,029.69 and the S&P 500 Index up 54.27 at 4,146.22. The 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 3.45%. Early Friday, June Dow Jones futures are down 65 points. European markets are higher with the spot futures of the London FTSE 100 trading up 0.27%, spot futures of Germany's DAX trading up 0.36% and spot futures of France's CAC Index trading up 0.25%. Asian markets are also higher with Japan's Nikkei 225 index up 1.20% and China's Shanghai Composite Index up 0.06%.
