Top 5 Things to Watch

25 Jun 2023

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of June 25. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on DTNPF.com.

1. Spotty Rains from Confusing Systems: All eyes are on what and where rain fell over the weekend and how much will fall this week with another system moving across the U.S. An even better system appears to be churning up for the Independence Day period. Model forecasts for precipitation are all over the place, so it's hard to determine who will get a break from drought. Temperatures should be much more variable and closer to normal for most of the country, but it'll still be really hot in Texas and that could creep up into Missouri and the surrounding areas for a couple of days between the systems.

2. A Seat at the DTN Table: For the latest conversation between DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranack and Lead Analyst Todd Hultman, head to the Special Reports tab in our online video area (see the navigation bar on your product, or on DTNPF.com go here: https://www.dtnpf.com/…

Farm Business Editor Katie Dehlinger has begun hosting these weekly conversations between John and Todd on what's expected in weather and how markets are responding to it. It's the closest thing you can get to sitting in our daily briefing meetings--which might sound like fun but trust us, the Special Report video is way more interesting.

3. Acreage Reports: June 30 we'll have the USDA annual Acreage and Quarterly Grain Stocks reports, which hits DTN products right after 11:00 a.m. CDT, and we'll have follow-up analysis through the morning. DTN's free webinar, with Todd Hultman, will discuss both reports at 12:30 p.m. You can register for that free event here: https://ag.dtn.com/…

Hultman's preview of the reports will be out Wednesday, June 28.

4. Close Eye on Wheat: We'll continue to watch wheat markets as harvest rolls along and world events add to the mix. DTN subscribers will know we made a change in our Six Factors wheat marketing strategy last week, but we've not stopped watching closely yet. To learn more about the Six Factors method, and our overall market thoughts, you can sign up for a trial subscription here: https://www.dtn.com/…

5. Reports Throughout the Week: USDA's weekly report of export inspections will be out Monday at 10 a.m. CDT, followed by the Crop Progress report, including our analysis of the latest crop news, at 3 p.m. Tuesday sees U.S. durable goods at 7:30 a.m. and U.S. new home sales in May at 9 a.m. Wednesday is the U.S. Energy Department's weekly energy inventories at 9:30 a.m., and our preview of USDA's Acreage and Grain Stocks report. Thursday we'll be watching USDA's export sales report, the weekly U.S. jobless claims, first quarter U.S. GDP and an update of the U.S. Drought Monitor, all due out at 7:30 a.m. U.S. pending home sales are at 9 a.m. and the Energy Department's report on natural gas storage is at 9:30 a.m. USDA's quarterly report of hogs and pigs inventory is set for 2 p.m. Friday is the reveal of The Fed's favored inflation gauge, the PCE index, due out at 7:30 a.m., along with reports on U.S. personal incomes and consumer spending in May.
