USDA will take offers on 2.5 mb of white wheat for donation to Yemen this week, which was enough interest to pull exporter bids up 20 cents. Relative strength in Minneapolis spring wheat futures were reflected in big gains for the dark northern spring wheat cash market over the past week. Crop Progress...Winter wheat harvest got underway across the PNW the past week while USDA showed conditions of that crop declining in Oregon and Washington. While Idaho saw good to excellent ratings climb 8 points to 53%, Washington slipped 6% to 54% and Oregon also declined 6 points to 19%. Spring wheat ratings for Idaho dropped 2 points to a 64% good to excellent rating, while Washington held unchanged at 48%. Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed the best wheat movement off U.S. ports for the new marketing year last week, coming in at 15.4 mb to put shipments 21% behind a year ago at 56 mb. Soft red winter was the top mover with 4.6 mb, followed by hard red winter and white wheat with 3.6 mb each. West coast port activity saw the Philippines being the big taker, with Indonesia, Yemen and Japan each taking on 1.2 mb. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2023 DTN/Telvent.
