Winter wheat harvest progress across the PNW is apparent, as early reports show decent yields but low test weights and high proteins. Export bids are starting to show discount scales being posted for white wheat proteins above 10.5%. Crop Progress...Extreme seasonal hot and dry conditions nipped winter wheat ratings in Washington last week, with the good to excellent rating for that state slipping 5 points to 49%. Oregon showed a 5% improvement in that category to 24% while Idaho held unchanged at 53%. Idaho spring wheat conditions reflect irrigated sections of southern Idaho with good to excellent setting at 64%, compared to a 46% rating n Washington. Shipments...Weekly export inpsections showed a marked setback from the improved pace of the past two weeks, with white wheat notably absent from the slate of shipments this week. Total shipments of 9.3 mb put the year- to-date total at 65 mb, which sets 16% behind a year ago. Soft red winter was top shipper with 5.3 mb, follwed by hard red winter at 2.1 mb and hard red spring with 1.8 mb for the week. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2023 DTN/Telvent.
