Basis levels to Chicago remained firm as farmer selling has come to a virtual standstill at current prices, creating logistical challenges for up country facilities limited on the amount of wheat that can be moved. Crop Progress...Spring wheat harvest continued to advance over the past week across the Pacific Northwest, with Idaho reporting 63% of the crop in versus 78% on average, while Washington now sets 83% harvested versus 79%. Producers were also busy working on a large acreage of canola and chickpeas. Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a modest week of shipments for U.S. wheat, with loading activity spread evenly amongst three classes of wheat. Total shipments of 11 mb put the year-to-date total at 159 mb, standing nearly 24% behind a year ago. Hard red spring moved 3.5 mb, with both hard red winter and soft white registering 3.3 mb each. Indonesia was the big taker off the west coast with 2.7 mb, followed by Thailand taking on 2.1 mb for the week. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2023 DTN/Telvent. All Rights Reserved.
