White wheat cash bids held unchanged from the lower move last week which firmed-up basis levels to Chicago. The trade is gearing up for an extended closure of the Columbia-Snake River waterway for maintenance, running from January into March this year as opposed to the normal three-week closure that occurs every year in the month of March. Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a markedly slower pace of wheat movement off U.S ports last week, coming in at 10 mb to place year- to-date shipments at 344 mb and 21% behind a year ago. White wheat stood as the top shipper for the week with 4.7 mb, followed by hard red spring with 3.6 mb. West coast activity showed the Philippines taking on 3.8 mb, and China also took on 2.4 mb of white wheat. Exporters also shipped 5 mb of corn and 8.5 mb of soybeans for China and Japan. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2024 DTN/Telvent. All Rights Reserved.
