DTN Early Word Grains 04/08 05:46 Grain Markets Mixed Monday Morning as Speculators Add to Short Positions in Wheat, Corn May corn is down 1 1/4 cents per bushel, May soybeans are steady, May KC wheat is up 4 1/4 cents, May Chicago wheat is down 3 cents and May Minneapolis wheat is up 1/2 cent. Kent Beadle, DTN Contributing Analyst EARLY MORNING GLOBEX NET CHANGES: May corn is down 1 1/4 cents per bushel, May soybeans are steady, May KC wheat is up 4 1/4 cents, May Chicago wheat is down 3 cents and May Minneapolis wheat is up 1/2 cent. CME GLOBEX RECAP: World equity markets are mixed Monday morning, with U.S. markets slightly lower while European markets are higher, catching up to the gains in the U.S. on Friday where a strong jobs number helped markets rally to close out the week. Despite Friday's higher close, the Dow Jones Industrial average had its worst week since March of 2023 while the NASDAQ closed lower for the third week in the past four weeks. Interest rates continue to tick higher, and the 10-year note closed at 4.38% and is higher again Monday morning. The jobs number at over 300,000 new jobs continues to show that the labor market is tight, and that inflation from wages remains sticky. The odds of three rate cuts this year seem to be shrinking to a consensus of two rate cuts. It is a light week for new economic data, but we will get CPI numbers on Wednesday and PPI numbers along with jobless claims on Thursday. On Friday we will get the import price index and a consumer sentiment reading. In agriculture, the big report will be Thursday with the USDA April Supply and Demand report at 11 a.m. CDT. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Friday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 307.06 at 38,904.04 and the S&P 500 up 57.13 at 5,204.34, The 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 4.38%. Early Monday, the June Dow Jones Futures are down 15 points. European markets are mixed/higher/lower with the spot futures of London's FTSE 100 trading up 0.16%, spot futures of Germany's DAX is trading up 0.62% and the spot futures of France's CAC 40 Index up 0.51%. Asian markets are mixed/higher/lower with Japan's Nikkei 225 Index up 0.91% and China's Shanghai Composite Index down 0.72%.
