Trade remains light but producers did take advantage of the recent spike in futures to establish some new crop hedges. Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a slower pace for wheat movement off U.S. ports last week, coming in at 13.3 mbus to put year-to- date shipments at 316 mbus which is 34% ahead of a year ago. White wheat was the top shipper with 6.3 mbus, followed by hard red spring with 4.5 mbus and hard red winter with less than a million bushels. Export activity on the west coast showed 8.8 mbus of wheat shipped, mostly to Japan and South Korea, along with nearly 10 mbus of corn and 15 mbus of soybeans. Crop Progress...Another 10% to 20% of the winter wheat crop was put in across Pacific Northwest last week, with relatively good emergence reported despite dry conditions. Idaho stands right in line with the average pace at 65% planted, while progress in Oregon and Washington is slightly ahead of average at respective planting rates of 45% and 81% complete. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2024 DTN/Telvent.
