DTN Early Word Grains 12/31 05:47 Corn, Soybeans and Wheat Start Firmer, Led by Beans and Soybean Meal March corn is up 2 cents per bushel, March soybeans are up 4 cents, March KC wheat is up 1 3/4 cents, March Chicago wheat is up 1 cent and March Minneapolis wheat is up 1 1/4 cents. Dana Mantini Senior Market Analyst EARLY MORNING GLOBEX NET CHANGES: March corn is up 2 cents per bushel, March soybeans are up 4 cents, March KC wheat is up 1 3/4 cents, March Chicago wheat is up 1 cent and March Minneapolis wheat is up 1 1/4 cents. CME GLOBEX RECAP: Markets begin early morning trade on Tuesday with both soybeans and soybean meal moderately higher, corn up two cents and wheat markets slightly higher after trading down overnight. Monday's early strength, fueled by the warmer and drier forecast for Argentina the next 10 days, could not hold and markets finished with only a modest gain. South American weather continues to be the primary focus of traders Tuesday and even though crops remain in very good shape in Argentina and southern Brazil, some weather premium has been added to markets. Trade is expected to be low volume but perhaps volatile on this New Year's Eve trade before Wednesday's holiday which sees the ag markets closed. Outside markets have exerted a slightly bearish tone with the U.S. dollar trading up near the high and the equities markets continuing to correct downward in the past few days. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Monday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 418.48 at 42,573.73 and the S&P 500 down 63.90 at 5,906.94. The 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 4.545%. Early Tuesday, the March Dow Jones Futures are up 94 points. European markets are mixed/higher/lower with the spot futures of London's FTSE 100 trading up 0.57%, spot futures of Germany's DAX is trading down 0.25% and the spot futures of France's CAC 40 Index up 0.61%. Asian markets are mixed/higher/lower with Japan's Nikkei 225 Index is steady and China's Shanghai Composite Index down 1.04%.
