Spot basis levels adjusted throughout the week with cash bids closing higher relative to a week ago. Hard red winter basis remains somewhat defensive, but USDA showed price levels were attracting export demand over the past week. Weekly Sales...USDA reported a modest improvement in export demand for U.S. wheat last week, but sales of 12.4 million bushels came in about 25% below the four-week average. Total commitments stand at 746 million bushels which is 12% ahead of a year ago and 1% above the five-year average pace. Hard red winter claimed a rare top seller honor for the marketing year with 5 million bushels in new sales, putting commitments at 182 million bushels which sets 51% ahead of a year ago but 22% below average. Hard red spring wheat garnered 3.8 million bushels and with 239 million on the books, sets about 8% ahead of both a year ago and average pace. Soft red winter booked 2.8 million bushels, placing sales at 113 million bushels which stands 33% below a year ago but 10% above average. White wheat sales slipped below a million bushels, putting commitments at 200 million bushels which is 46% ahead of a year ago and 23% above average. - Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2025 DTN/Telvent.
