DTN Closing Livestock Comment 08/18 16:49 Meat Futures Settle Mostly Mixed The cattle complex closed mixed in the live market and mostly higher in the feeder trade. Lean hog futures also settled narrowly mixed in light volume. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: Zero buying interest was evident in feedlot country Tuesday with even token bids hard to come by. A few showlists were priced around $153 in the South and $240-plus in the North. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base is .31 higher compared with the Prior Day settlement ($65.00-$77.50, weighted average $77.10). Corn futures finished close to 3 cents higher, supported in part by reports of poor crops in western Indiana and eastern Illinois from the Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour. The stock market closed lower as Wall Street digested better than expected housing data and mixed earnings results i.e., better than expected from Home Depot, softer than expected from Walmart). The Dow closed 33 points lower with the Nasdaq down by 22.
