Soft white wheat basis remains somewhat defensive on ordinary protein bids, as exporters remain focused on securing the lower end of the protein market for Pacific Rim business. Shipments...Weekly export inspections improved for the second week in a row, moving back toward a higher seasonal loading pattern. Total shipments of US wheat came in near 24 mb, placing year-to-date shipments 16% behind a year ago at 275 mb. Dark northern spring wheat accounted for nearly half the weekly total, followed by hard red winter with 5.7 mb and soft white wheat at 2.4 mb. Crop Progress...Overall US winter wheat plantings are slightly behind the average pace at 31% complete with slower than average emergence. Washington winter wheat plantings are 10% behind average at 59% complete; Oregon is on track with average at 21% planted; and Idaho is 5% behind the average pace with 35% planted. Montana shows plantings 16% ahead of the five-year average with nearly 70% of the crop in the ground. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2015 DTN/Telvent. All Rights Reserved.
