DTN Early Word Grains 04/14 05:55 Grains Take a Breather Early Thursday May corn was 2 cents lower, May soybeans were 6 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was 2 cents lower, May soybeans were 6 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: To the surprise of no one, given the strength of Wednesday's rally, grains traded lower overnight into Thursday morning. Soybeans gave back some of the late spike rally while corn and wheat slid lower. Gold and crude oil were both lower, due in part to the continued rally in the U.S. dollar index. Like the grains, DJIA futures were lower following strong gains Wednesday. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 187.03 points higher at 17,908.28, the NASDAQ Composite was up 75.33 points at 4,947.42, and the S&P 500 rallied 20.71 points to close at 2,082.42 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 12 points lower overnight. Asian markets were higher with the Nikkei up 529.83 points (3.2%) while China's Shanghai Composite rallied 15.72 points (0.5%). European markets were mixed with London's FTSE 100 down 4.98 points. The U.S. dollar index gained 0.163 to 94.907. Crude oil fell $0.07 to $41.69 while Brent crude fell $0.08 to $44.09. June gold was $5.80 lower at $1,242.50. China's Dalian soybean futures were higher while Malaysian palm oil futures were lower.
