DTN Early Word Grains 04/26 05:56 Markets Don't Meltdown, or Turnaround July corn was slightly higher, July soybeans were unchanged, and July Kansas City wheat was 1 cent lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: July corn was slightly higher, July soybeans were unchanged, and July Kansas City wheat was 1 cent lower. CME Globex Recap: Grains were quiet early Tuesday, April 26, the 30-year anniversary of the Chernobyl meltdown. Contracts certainly didn't see a "turnaround" from Monday's action, despite the sector-wide bearish close. Beans were under the most pressure, down 2 cents early, while corn and wheat were fractionally mixed. Energies were higher and metals were lower. The U.S. dollar index was lower again, losing another 0.280, while DJIA futures were higher. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 26.51 points lower at 17,977.24, the NASDAQ Composite was down 10.44 points at 4,895.79, and the S&P 500 slipped 3.79 points to close at 2,087.79 Monday. DJIA futures were 21 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei down 86.02 points (0.5%) while China's Shanghai Composite rallied 18.03 points (0.6%). European markets were mostly higher with London's FTSE 100 up 24.14 points (0.4%). The U.S. dollar index fell 0.280 to 94.562. Crude oil gained $0.27 to $42.91 and Brent crude rallied $0.29 to $44.77. June gold was $4.10 lower at $1,236.10. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher Tuesday morning.
