DTN Early Word Grains 08/10 05:57 Grains Unchained Overnight, or Not December corn was unchanged, November soybeans were 3 cents higher, and September Chicago wheat was unchanged. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was unchanged, November soybeans were 3 cents higher, and September Chicago wheat was unchanged. CME Globex Recap: Corn barely moved again overnight, a pattern that is becoming normal as the market consolidates ahead of Friday's USDA reports. This lack of action was also seen in wheat, while soybeans showed at least a spark of life during the session. Outside commodities were mixed with energies mostly lower and metals higher, all while the U.S. dollar index fell hard due to a higher U.S. bond market that pushed rates lower. Meanwhile, DJIA futures were slightly higher, flying in the face of what was seen in overseas markets. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 3.76 points higher at 18,533.05, the NASDAQ Composite gained 12.34 points to 5,225.48, and the S&P 500 rallied 0.85 point to close at 2,181.74 Tuesday. DJIA futures gained 3 points overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with Japan's Nikkei down 29.85 points (0.2%) and China's Shanghai Composite dipped 6.93 points (0.2%). European markets were also mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 13.82 points (0.2%), Germany's DAX fell 56.65 points (0.5%), and France's CAC 40 lost 18.60 points (0.4%). The U.S. dollar index fell 0.529 to 95.600. Crude oil was off $0.53 to $42.24 while Brent crude was $0.42 lower at $44.56. December gold was $12.20 higher at $1,358.90. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both higher overnight.
