By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 3 cents higher, November soybeans were 4 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was 5 cents higher. CME Globex Recap: Thursday, September 1 marks the first unofficial day of fall, and grains are starting the season off a little higher. The two markets that have seen the most pressure lately (soybeans and wheat) are leading the way, while corn "expanded" its overnight trading range to about 3 cents. Outside markets were mostly lower again. Energy markets remain in solid minor (short-term) downtrends as a new month gets under way, while gold was also lower. The U.S. dollar index was near unchanged as DJIA futures traded higher overnight. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 53.42 points lower at 18,400.88, the NASDAQ Composite lost 9.77 points to 5,213.22, and the S&P 500 fell 5.17 points to close at 2,170.95 Thursday. DJIA futures were 29 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with Japan's Nikkei up 39.44 points (0.2%) while China's Shanghai Composite lost 22.19 points (0.7%). European markets were mostly higher with London's FTSE 100 off 10.12 points (0.1%), Germany's DAX up 43.56 points (0.4%), and France's CAC 40 up 37.68 points (0.8%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.008 higher at 96.030. Crude oil was down $0.14 to $44.55 while Brent crude lost $0.24 to $46.65. December gold was $2.00 lower at $1,309.40. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both lower overnight.
