DTN Early Word Grains 09/08 05:59 Grains Green as Dollar Sinks December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 6 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 6 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. CME Globex Recap: Commodities in general were higher overnight, buoyed by renewed selling in the U.S. dollar index (USDX). Though still early in the month, there is getting to be more talk of the Federal Reserve not raising rates in September, keeping the USDX in its secondary (intermediate-term) and major (long-term) downtrends. Soybeans and crude oil were the strongest overnight movers, with beans continuing to see commercial buying interest. DJIA futures were also higher. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 11.98 points lower at 18,526.14, the NASDAQ Composite gained 8.02 points to 5,283.93, and the S&P 500 fell 0.32 point to close at 2,186.16 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 17 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly higher though Japan's Nikkei was down 53.67 points (0.3%) while China's Shanghai Composite gained 4.03 points (0.1%). European markets were also mostly higher with London's FTSE 100 up 35.58 points (0.5%), Germany's DAX fell 17.80 points (0.2%), and France's CAC 40 dipped 0.20 points. The U.S. dollar index was 0.311 lower at 94.645. Crude oil was up $0.79 to $46.29 while Brent crude gained $0.72 to $48.70. December gold was $3.50 higher at $1,352.70. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher overnight.
