Basis levels on the protein wheats are holding mostly steady, with all markets showing flat numbers through September. Open and seasaonably warm weather is advancing the winter wheat harvest. Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed wheat movement off U.S. ports slightly below the prior week at 14.3 mb, putting the year-to-date total at 139 mb and 7% ahead of a year ago. Hard red winter claimed top shipper honors with 7.7 mb, followed by soft white with 3.3 mb and hard red spring with 2.1 mb. Top destinations off the west coast were Taiwan and Yemen with each taking 2.1 mb. Crop Progress...Winter wheat harvest has begun in earnest across the Pacific Northwest, somewhat behind the five-year average pace. Oregon is at 33% complete but 20% behind average, Washingtion is 19% complete and 20% behind average while Idaho stands 16% behind average at 22% complete. Spring wheat conditions in Idaho took a hit last week as late plantings linger against hot and dry conditions; slipping back to 94% of average.
