Nearby white wheat prices remained somewhat defensive, reflected in spot basis dropping nearly 10 cents today. Barge traffic on the Snake-Columbia river system also came to a halt this week, as an unexpected lock closure on the Bonneville Dam has stopped movement up and downriver. The Army Corps has not announced how long the repairs to a main gate on the Dam will take. Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed U.S. wheat loadings were down 27% from the prior week, coming in at 14.8 mb to put shipments for the year at 257 mb and 23% ahead of a year ago. Top shipper was hard red winter witn 4.8 mb, followed by hard red spring with 4.1 and white wheat at 1.7 mb for the week. Thailand was the top west coast destination. Crop Progress...Weekend rainfall across the Pacific Northwest brought spring wheat harvest to a standstill, with 15% of the crop remaining to be cut in Idaho and Washington with 26% of the crop to be harvested. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2019 DTN/Telvent.
