Recent demand shows offers are price competitive, keeping white wheat basis on the defensive while hard red spring basis remains firm. Weekly Sales...USDA reported a significant jump in U.S. wheat demand over the past week, as overall sales hit a marketing year high of nearly 32 mb. Year-to-date sales now stand at 655 mb, whihc is 7% ahead of a year ago and on-par with the five-year average pace. Hard red winter was the top seller, marking a high sales mark for the year with 13.6 mb and sets 31% ahead of a year ago and 7% above average. Hard red spring saw 8.6 mb in new commitments and with 184 mb sets 4% behind a year ago and 9% below average. Soft white posted the second best weekly total of the year with 7.2 mb, putting sales at 129 mb which is 10% behind last year but now 1% above the five-year average pace. Top Buyers..The Philippines, Mexico and unknown all registerd as top buyers over the past week, with each booking 4.6 mb.
