IA 1,100 162.00-163.00 257.00-258.00 DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: It turned out to be another waiting game last week, with business holding off until Thursday and Friday. Northern dressed sales ranged from $252 to $258, mostly $257, $3 higher than the prior week's weighted average. Southern live deals had a range of $158 to $162, mostly $162, $2 higher than the previous week's weighted averages. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports, the accumulated weekly average price totals were as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS $161.00($160.23); NE $256.94($253.97); TX $159.00($159.97); IA $256.41($253.79); CO not available due to confidentiality. Keep in mind that Southern trade took place mostly on Friday so the actual weighted averages will be higher in that area. The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists weekly trade volume totals as: KS 7,556; NE 19,484; TX 3,840; IA 24,312; but not available in CO due to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 121,000 head, 1,000 less than both a week and year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at a mere 7,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 627,000 head, 3,000 below the previous week, and 43,000 below 2022. The weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $275.65(+7.76), select $260.94(+6.44), with an average choice select spread of $14.71(+1.33), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 506(-29). Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses. For the week ending February 11, 2023, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the U.S. totaled 46,312, 96.68% of the previous week and 99.14% of the 4-week average. DTN MORNING COMMENTS: This Monday looks to be typically quiet with both buyers and sellers busy taking inventory and collecting new showlists. Significant trade volume will likely not develop until late in the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with light box movement.
