DTN Closing Grain Comments 01/09 15:46 Ag Commodities Mixed To Mostly Higher In Pre-USDA Shortened Session Markets closed early Thursday in recognition of the National Day of Mourning for President Carter. As a result of equity markets being closed, it was naturally a quieter session with little outside influence to drive ag commodities. Traders continue to position ahead of Friday's USDA event which will feature several reports including the January WASDE, Grain Stocks, and Wheat Seedings report. Corn and soybean markets were able to shake off early weakness to close slightly higher and well within predefined ranges for the week. Outside market influence as mentioned was minimal but for the most part neutral as the U.S. Dollar Index continues to work higher and has now recaptured losses from Friday and Monday's down sessions. Rhett Montgomery DTN Lead Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: March corn closed up 2 cents and May corn was up 2 cents. March soybeans closed up 2 1/2 cents and May soybeans were up 4 3/4 cents. March KC wheat closed unchanged, March Chicago wheat was down 2 1/4, March Minneapolis wheat was down 1/12 cents.
